Roman & Florian de Rijk write, direct and produce (short) fiction films in which they explore the deeper layers of our reality. With their films they intend to bring the invisible into frame and encourage their audience to bring in their own interpretation. With their work the brothers would like to present their audience something to think about and explore for themselves.
As brothers Roman (1987) and Florian (1993) have been sharing a common interest in film for a long time. Since their childhood they love to use their imagination to create short films. What started as funny spoofs grew into more complex stories where both Roman and Florian could bring in their own background.
Roman has a bachelor in religious and philosophical education and works as a teacher in religion/philosophy and art/culture. During his study he discovered his interest in universal stories and the way these stories have influenced our history (and still do). As a teacher Roman also directs musical productions with high school students.
Florian has a bachelor in cultural heritage. During his time at the Reinwardt Academie he specialized in Exhibition Direction, made film portraits of artists for Slot Zeist and worked as an intern on art-installations and an opera for Luperpedia Foundation (Saskia Boddeke and Peter Greenaway). Today he works as a beer brewer at ‘De Leckere’. With brewing Florian combines his creativity and passion for history and cultural heritage in the development of new beers.
Their shared interest in art, philosophy, religion and politics became the heart of each project and every film is preceded by a profound conversation about its theme. Storytelling has always been a way to reflect on the world we live in and with their movies Roman & Florian are able to express their vision and thoughts.
For the past few years Roman & Florian have been working on promo videos, music videos and short films. Just open your mind and experience the stories!
